Welcome to Westminster Nursery School
Westminster Nursery School was established by the Session of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River in November 1951 with six pupils attending. In 1969 WNS relocated from Washington Street to the new church building at 1070 Hooper Avenue. WNS has grown into the oldest and largest church-related nursery school in the state of New Jersey. Our enrollment of approximately 300 children consists of four-year-olds, three-year-olds and two-and-one-half-year-olds. The school is open to all religions and communities. People travel from as far as Manahawkin, Brick, and Manchester just to have their children attend our programs.
Our Philosophy
Westminster believes that childhood should be a journey, not a race. Experienced, qualified teachers will guide children through learning opportunities in accordance with each child’s individual rate of growth, development and readiness. Our goal is to develop happy and well-adjusted children. A developmentally appropriate, academic curriculum with learning experiences is offered. As young children learn by doing, they will adjust socially and emotionally in their classrooms. The children are supported in developing positive feelings about themselves and others in a climate of affection, positive reinforcement and freedom within limits. Westminster embraces all aspects of young children: social-emotional, intellectual, physical and creative. It is important to give children opportunities to express ideas freely and spontaneously. We believe that early childhood is where the future begins. An atmosphere of Christian care and concern for young children is the foundation of Westminster Nursery School. A simple prayer is said before snack. Church pastors and music staff provide Rainbow Kids assemblies to enhance the spiritual growth of our children. Through this children are encouraged to realize they are loved and precious to God.
